a guest in the nest.
“Mom! Mom! Mommmm! There is a bird in our house!” To which I quickly replied, “Shut up! Are you kidding me?!?!?”
My youngest daughter was getting ready for church one Sunday morning when she heard a weird squeaky noise. She went exploring to find the source of the strange sound which led her to a bird in our guest bedroom!
We quickly shut the door so it would be contained as we tried to figure out a plan of what to do. My husband “volunteered” to go in the room and try to shew it out the window that he planned to open. In the meantime, my oldest daughter googled that a bird poops on average every 15 minutes! To which I began to rock myself in a corner thinking of what our guest bedroom would look like after our feathered friend departed.
I could hear my husband saying words like, “Go!” “Not that way, this way!” “Your freedom is just outside that window!” “Please get out of our house!” He came back to join us as we were all waiting outside the bedroom door. I remember him saying, “if I could just become a bird for a minute and show this bird the way, then it would easily follow me and return to where it belongs.”
I couldn’t help but think of something a good friend once told me, and that is exactly what God has done for us. He sent His son Jesus, to become human, to lead us, guide us, and show us the way to life everlasting. It reminds me of our oldest daughter and the meaning of her name. It means free and triumphant. And that is my prayer for not only her but you as well. That you will know what true freedom in Christ looks like.
Having just celebrated Christmas, what a great reminder that God has saved us and given us freedom through His son! He is a gift and if we choose to accept this gift, life will no longer be ours but His. I can’t think of anyone better to entrust my life with! Let’s kick off 2025 living in freedom and full surrender to the one who loves you so much!
Galatians 5:1, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
