His flock.
One of my favorite movies, especially at Christmas time, is “The Star”. In the movie, there is a sheep named Ruth who decided not to follow her flock. She knew there was something more. So, she sat out on her own even though no one joined her.
If you know anything about sheep, they do not independently act on their own. They are followers.
The Bible refers to us as sheep who need a Shepherd. We stray, get lost, and need a Shepherd to protect us, guide us, and keep our best interest in mind. There is a peace, knowing that we are in God’s care. The Bible also tells us that God’s sheep know and recognize His voice. What I love about the sheep named Ruth is that she wasn’t a follower of her flock or of others. She followed where God was leading her. Even when no one else believed her, they thought she was crazy, she became an outcast and not accepted by her own flock. . . she STILL pursued the truth. I personally aspire to be like Ruth (the sheep and the Old Testament heroine). May others around you and me not influence us in a way that prohibits us from following God’s very best plan for our life. May we walk in confidence even when others around us think we might be crazy. May we always walk in obedience, following the Lord, knowing He can be trusted. He will bring others to encourage us and walk with us toward the Star.
