flower power

It was my birthday! I love my birthday! It’s the one day where I don’t help anyone, pick up anything, do any laundry. . . I give myself the freedom to do what I want that day. I’m often met with the words of, “it’s your birthday. Do whatever you want!” Sweet words to my ears.

My amazing husband knows how much I love coffee and throw in a breakfast sandwich, it’s like manna from heaven.

As I took time for me, and went to sit and enjoy, I noticed what was written on my cup.

“Flower power!”

And it got me thinking. . .

Flower power was a slogan used during the late 1960s and early 1970s as a symbol of passive resistance and nonviolence.

The ideas of the flower children were to promote peace and love as means of changing the world.

Now, I love PARTS of this.

I want to be a person of peace. I want to be someone who has the kind of peace the Bible talks about. The kind of peace that passes all understanding.

I want to change the world. I want my life to count and make a difference for the better. I want the world to be better because I was born!

I want to show love and show it well. I want the love of Jesus to be so evident in all I say and do. That my life will be a reflection of His love!

Passive resistance. Now, this is what I don’t want to be. But so often all of us can be this way when it comes to our relationship with God.

Passive resistance is defined as; nonviolent opposition to authority.
We know that God is our Ultimate Authority. And I believe He places other authorities sometimes in our life as a practice to recognize His authority. But we often resist Him and His leading. We often don’t want to give up things and just like me on my birthday, we want it to be about us. It’s comfortable, we think it’s easier, and believe it will be more enjoyable.
So I have to ask. What are you passively resisting that God is asking of you? No one looking from the outside would know of your resistance, that’s why it’s passive. But if you asked God, you know what He would tell you.
Giving things and people and our own lives freely over to God is a lot easier than when they are pried from our hands. So, release it ALL over to Him. He loves you and He can be trusted.
