i have nothing.
I recently went to the grocery store to pick up a few things. I was trying to wisely plan for the week ahead, knowing that lunches had to be made, dinners would be thrown together, and snacks would be demanded! I had a small window to get in and out of the grocery store, so I found myself looking like a “mall walker” as I raced to gather all the things. If you don’t know what a “mall walker” is, let me explain. When I was growing up these were the women who did their walking around the mall and their arms swinging back-and-forth with more vigor than a Ghanaian soldier. Get the picture? (Maybe I’ve seen too many Ghanaian marches)
As I was going to the self checkout line, I had grabbed a few boxes of Kleenex that were requested by my daughter’s school. I scanned one box and put in my bag and then I scanned the second box. It was half the price of the first! I flagged the woman overseeing the self check out lines and asked if I could run and get the cheaper Kleenex. She was so kind and assured me it was fine and began working on correcting my cart. When I came back, she was standing in my lane and we began talking. I learned her name, where she is from, the hardships that her life has brought, and that she is new to the area. She then told me that she came here because she has some family here. And, a close family member just bought a car for her! She couldn’t believe how generous that was! And then what she said next, I will always remember.
“I have nothing.“
Another customer needed her at that time so she quickly left to go and help them. As I stood there wanting to have a long sit down with her, wanting to ask if she knew Jesus (because with Him, you truly have everything), I realized there was someone waiting for my check out lane. So, I got my belongings and waved goodbye to her. As I walked to my car, I kept thinking about what she said. “I have nothing.”
Have you ever thought that? That you have nothing? My prayer is that we all have something and hopefully someone, but to think and feel that you have nothing. . . It’s heavy on my heart. Maybe you have thought this before or even feeling it now.
Colossians 2:10 tells us that, “In Him we have everything" and Philippians 4:19 reminds us that, “God will supply every need of yours.”
Maybe you don’t have a lot of wealth, material possessions, credentials, or accolades. The Bible tells us that all of those things pass away. They are temporary. But there is a way to have something that is everlasting!
So if you ever find yourself in a place feeling like you have nothing, remember that Jesus wants to be your everything! He can and will supply all of your needs!
Know that I love you and I’m praying for you this week!
