i will rise
Want to know one of my greatest weaknesses?!? BREAD. I LOVE bread. Add some butter to that same slice of bread. . . My mouth is watering! This has got to be what manna from heaven is like, right?
Recently I was in a dear friend’s home and she was making bread. Bread amazes me because there is a process to get to the results you want. (Kind of like our lives)
As I asked my friend what the two mounds of dough were doing on her counter, she told me they were resting. They have to sit for a while before they can rise.
Those two words. . . Rest and sit. Something that some of us don’t do well. (stop pointing your finger at me while you read this!) God continues to show and teach me the importance of sitting and resting with Him. Before we can rise, before we can be used to our full potential, before we can clearly hear God’s voice, we must sit with Him. We need to be more like Mary, sitting at the feet of Jesus listening to what He says and less like Martha, being distracted by all that needs to be done. Jesus said that Mary chose what was better.
It’s also good to know that the exact time it takes for dough to rise varies depending on many factors. I know there may be many factors in your life that can cause you not to be able to rise in this season. But, today, may you choose what is better. May you sit at His feet, listening to what He wants to tell you, and then, after you sit and rest, may you be able to rise from your seat and begin to walk in the direction He leads you. And if walking seems too difficult, remember that He will carry you. For in our weakness, He is strong.
