see with your heart.
It was movie night! I was so excited to be able to finally sit, take a breath, and watch a movie with my family. It was my youngest daughter‘s turn to pick the movie and she quickly selected, “Because of Winn-Dixie.“ It’s a movie we have seen many times and I honestly was not too excited to watch it again. But it was amazing how new things stuck out to me during the movie. If you’ve never watched this movie, I highly recommend! There’s a scene where the main character, Opal, goes to visit an older neighbor, Gloria Dump. (It’s a terrible last name which she points out in the movie!) Gloria has a line in the movie that is truly epic. She tells Opal that her eyes don’t see very well anymore so she has to see with her heart. I love this so much! I actually paused the movie to write this down so I would remember. See with your heart. I remember there was a moment where I felt sorry for Gloria because she was almost completely blind. But after hearing her say this, I found myself thinking, “what a gift!“
She was able to see with her heart and was not distracted by what her eyes tried to communicate.
The Bible tells us that man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart. He searches, looking far and near for those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. My prayer for you and myself is that we will be able to see with our heart. That our eyes will not distract us as they often do. And that you will find yourself asking the question, “have I been seeing people with my heart?” Or better yet, with God’s heart, as we know even our own hearts can be fickle, at times.
I pray God will give you discernment and wisdom, and that the veil over our eyes will be removed so that we can see people the way God sees them.
