not at home

Just in case you were wondering - this is not my home. 😉

Last week was a nice rest away from the high temperatures in Oklahoma. And while I was not at home, and even though I was loving it, there’s really no place like home. I’m reminded of Dorthy from The Wizard of Oz when she repeated, “there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home!”

But when not at home, I’ve noticed that people naturally complain. We go where it’s hot and complain that it’s too hot, when the weather cools off we complain that it’s too cold. We want to go to popular restaurants but then complain it’s too crowded, and it goes on and on. I have often wondered why humans are often natural moaners and groaners. I believe it’s because we are not designed for this earthly home but for another home.

Have you ever been in a place and it doesn’t feel at home? It’s uncomfortable, awkward, feels tense or just off? You feel as if you can’t just be yourself?

We are suppose to feel all of these things because this world is not our permanent home. We are just visiting, almost as if we are foreigners. Our forever home is a place that Jesus has gone and prepared for us. He has you in mind and knows the time when we will be with Him forever. . . At our true home which we were made and designed for. Now this doesn’t mean we can’t have peace and contentment in our various situations and settings, but what it does mean is that when you get that “fish out of water” feeling, it’s okay.

Hebrews 13:14- 16 says; “For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come. Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. And don't forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God”

So the question is, are you at home? Have you gotten too comfortable being here, in your temporary home that might possibly offer all the comforts and amenities one could ever want. Do you find yourself complaining about things? Do you tend to turn towards things that bring you comfort that is short lived? Food, drinks, binge watching Netflix, social media, shopping. . .

Take a moment today and ask God to remind you that every breath you take is a gift from Him and He knows how many you have here at your temporary home.
