Your thoughts are not my thoughts.

I once heard a woman say, “Well, she thinks that she just . . . . . . “ and I won’t finish that sentence…(trying to be Christ-like here!) However, I think it’s important to talk about this because we often think we know what the other person is thinking. This way of thinking is what can get us all into trouble. It can make for disappointments in marriage, cause hurts in friendships, serve as a catalyst to arguments in parenting, or result in disappointment in others.

In reality, we DO NOT know what other people are thinking. We try to think we know what they are thinking based on what they say, how they act, what they wear, how they respond, and the list goes on and on. But we don’t know what they are thinking.

Isaiah 55:8 says, ‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the LORD.”

We like to think we know what even God is thinking, but clearly, scripture tells us that we can’t even possibly think what His thoughts are. It goes on to say in verse 9, “For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

Isn’t that comforting to know? Just like we don’t know what other people are thinking, even the ones closest to us - we for sure can’t image what God’s thoughts are like. They are so much bigger, higher, holier, and greater than anything we can imagine! And His thoughts about you are good!
