we are like avocados.

My family loves avocados! We eat them on a weekly basis. Avocado toast for breakfast, avocado cut up in lunches, guacamole as a snack, avocados in our tacos, quesadillas, or simply just cut up with a little bit of salt and pepper. So, as you can tell, we love avocados! The only problem is when we purchase them by the bag, the entire bag of avocados is ready to eat at the same time. Now, even with us being avocado lovers, we are not able to eat 6-8 at a time. However, there is resolve! And, if you love avocados then I’m about to change your life!

Simply place the ripe avocados in a jar of water, seal it, and put in the refrigerator. They will remain in the same state that they went into the water. Three weeks later, or even longer, the avocados are the same; perfectly ripe and ready to eat. There is something about being surrounded and sealed by water that keeps them perfect and ready. You will be amazed!

The Bible mentions living water several times and it is said to heal, nourish, sustain, bring peace, and joy. Talk about a cool drink right there! Jesus is referred to as the living water. He is the giver of life and offers salvation to us. We are like avocados. Our hearts can be hardened from hurt, habits, and things that we can’t seem to get past. But God wants to soften our hearts. He wants us to not only see ourselves through His eyes but others as well. God wants us to be “ripe”; growing in Him and looking more and more like His image. But once our hearts are softened, if we do not emerge ourselves in the Living Water, then it’s not sustainable. And many times, we can become bitter and angry and not in a place where we are able to love ourselves and others. However, God is always able to bring our hearts back to being pure and softened, if we allow Him to.

Here is my question for you, “Are you going to the right source for healing, renewal, peace, and joy?” God can and will sustain you in whatever season you find yourself in. Take the “plunge” and allow Him to surround you with His peace, love, goodness, forgiveness, and grace. Give your heart to Jesus. He will take care of it. And, may our prayer be like the verse in the hymn, Come Thou Fount, and say, “Here’s my heart, Lord, take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above.”
