you are fine china.
Something that has never happened to me happened this last week. My role with Pearl House involves me to have several meetings with people throughout the week, which I love! My favorite thing is spending time with people, getting to know them, and sharing the Pearl House story. This one particular morning, my meeting was scheduled to be at the Pearl House office, which isn’t unusual. But this meeting was different. The lady I was meeting with arrived on time and walked in the door with a box in hand. I couldn’t figure out what would be in that box and why she’s bringing it to our office. So we proceeded to the conference room where she sat the box down and revealed out the contents inside. She first pulled out a plate of chocolate chip muffins. Yum! Then proceeded with cloth napkins. To follow was a tea kettle where she began heating hot water. And then she pulled out her fine China. She set a place setting around the conference table where we would then have tea together, and visit about all that God is doing with Pearl House. I was in awe. I’ve never had tea in this way served to me in my office. With one simple gesture, my new friend had transported me from my workplace to Buckingham Palace! I felt so very special, and seen and loved. It truly was the highlight of my week!
The Bible tells us that we are like fine china. We are not paper plates.
Paper plates are used once, and thrown away. Fine china is something that is of value and worth, just like you.
(2 Timothy 20)
At my house, we tend to use paper plates more often than we should. And it tends to make the meal ordinary. But when someone gets their nice dishes out—their fine china— it brings your attention to the importance of it. It somehow makes you feel special and you sit up a little taller (with pinkies out).
This week, remember this truth. You are not a paper plate, something to be tossed aside, even if you may feel like one. You have value and worth. Maybe you need to get your fine china out, have a cup of tea, and remember that God has a special purpose for your life. So raise that pinky high in the air, put your shoulders back and hold your head high, knowing that you are fine china of great worth and value, and God has a great purpose for you!
